"Superior" is inherited terminology. It comes from mid-twentieth-century classification tables, where each ten-point band was given an adjective, and it has survived into modern charts largely by inertia. What it claims is narrow and specific: performance on a sample of timed abstract reasoning items placed you in roughly the top tenth of the reference group. It claims nothing comparative about people, judgement or competence.
The distance to the next label is worth knowing precisely, because it is larger than it looks. From 120 the gifted line at 130 is 10 points away — more than twice the measurement error of a good test, so it represents a real difference rather than a rounding artefact. That is the opposite of the situation two or three points below a boundary, where the gap and the error are the same size.
Where scores in this range concentrate
Not evenly. Occupations and courses that select hard on academic performance end up with higher average measured reasoning than the population, simply as a by-product of the selection — which is why this range is over-represented in research, engineering, medicine and law relative to its 10% population share.
That is a fact about selection, not a requirement. It says nothing about whether a given individual in one of those fields scores here, and nothing about whether someone scoring here belongs in one of those fields. Reading a group average as an entry criterion is the most common mistake made with numbers like these.

Composites in the 120s are rarely flat.
